Everything you need to know about photography mini sessions
Mini sessions are a perfect way to capture your family without the commitment of a full-length photoshoot. Whether it’s for Mother’s Day, a seasonal update, or simply a moment you want to remember, these shorter sessions in Mandurah and the surrounding areas are designed to be fun, relaxed, and full of connection.
Every photographer runs their minis differently, from location and posing, to session length and what’s included. I designed my minis to flow with your family. They reflect my signature documentary style, including activities, relaxed sets, and image inclusive pricing.
So, here’s what you can expect…
Why Mini-Sessions are Special
Mini sessions are shorter than full length photoshoots, more focused, and designed to be easy for busy families. I love them because they make professional photography accessible to everyone.
Quick & Convenient:
Most of my minis are 30-mins. This allows enough time for settling in, a fun activity, and a final check at the end to make sure we have all the images we need. Some specialist minis, like School Photos, may be shorter.
Affordable:
I love mini sessions because they make professional photography more accessible. You might notice that the pricing of my mini sessions varies. That’s because I try my best to keep them as affordable as possible, so, rather than having one single, higher set price, my prices vary depending on location and material costs.
Perfect for Special Occasions:
I’m a big believer that the perfect time to book your photos is always now. But, minis are perfect for those special celebrations: Mother’s Day, Christmas, The changing seasons of our home and your family.
What Happens During a Mini Session
My minis are a little different than most. So, to help you feel comfortable and prepared. Here’s what you can expect:
Arrival - I’m that person who checks street view for parking before I go anywhere 😅 So, you can be sure I’ve scoped out our location to make sure it’s easy for everyone to locate, park, and access. You can also expect a pin drop image in your reminder email so you know exactly where I’ll be waiting.
Session Flow - I’ll take a few moments to say hi, let the kids explore the set, and explain the session activities. I’ll share a few final tips and do last minute checks for lighting, skin tones, and hair elastics on wrists. Then you’ll spend the majority of your session simply spending time together, doing your activity, cuddling, and playing. I’ll offer small prompts and tips here and there, but mostly, I’ll just observe and capture the magic. Once your session is complete and your activity is finished, you’re free to take home your creations.
Your photos – Within 4-6 weeks, you’ll receive a link to your private gallery where you can view and download all your images. There you’ll also find your unique print voucher and details on how to redeem it.
Your prints – Every mini comes with some kind of print or print voucher included. This isn’t just a gimmick to get you to spend more. These vouchers are genuinely enough for you to get professional prints without spending another $. Once your prints are ordered, I’ll keep you up to date on their progress, and, once they’re ready, I’ll personally hand deliver them at a time to suit you. Because your memories deserve more than a knock and drop by the postie.
How to Prepare
If you’re here, you're probably already aware of my documentary style and relaxed approach. So, preparation for my sessions, is less about perfection and more about making sure your session is relaxed, easy, and really reflects your family.
Outfits:
You don’t need to go out and buy new outfits for your session, and they definitely don’t need to match. The goal is co-ordination and comfort. So, dress mum first. Look for soft textures, flowy fabrics, and earthy or muted tones. Find an outfit in your wardrobe that you already love and feel comfortable in and then dress the family to fit the vibe.
Hair & Makeup:
Keep it natural and simple; focus on feeling like yourself. As many of my sessions involve being outdoors and doing activities that the kids may be lent over focusing on, I recommend having hair pulled back from faces, but that doesn’t mean you need an Aussie slickback (unless that’s your vibe). Again, think texture and personality: braids photograph beautifully, but something as simple as a small clip on the side keeps your face in the frame.
Bring Small Items for Kids:
I’m a mum too, so my bag is always stocked with stickers, wipes, spare sunscreen, and sanitizer. But, you know your little ones best: If they’re having a growth spurt and need to eat every 30-seconds, bring their favourite mess-free snacks. If they’re shy, their favorite toy or comforter can help little ones feel safe and happy. These items being in the photos doesn’t distract from the beauty of your family, they tell the story of the season you’re in right now.
Timing Matters:
I often offer sessions from early morning right through to sunset. Golden hour light (early morning and just before sunset) tend to be the first slots to book out, so, if that’s what you’re after I recommend you join my early access mailing list to get access to minis booking before it’s released to the public. Otherwise, try to schedule around naps, mealtimes, and witching hour to make sure your session is relaxed and laid back.
