What is documentary family photography?
Real life, beautifully told.
When I was studying photography, I learned all the rules; what lighting to use, how to pose people, how to get them to smile.
But the more I practiced, the more I realised: That kind of photography just didn’t feel like me,.
And it didn’t feel like you, either.
I wanted to capture something more honest… Real-life family moments filled with quiet cuddles, muddy boots, everyday chaos and connection.
That’s how i found my way to documentary photography - but with my own little twist.
Instead of the awkward direction of traditional photoshoots or the strict hands-off approach of classic documentary photography, I created a middle ground. A space where you can step into a relaxed, familiar activity you family already loves; A walk to the park, blanket forts in the lounge, snuggling up for a story…
There’s no “look at the camera” posing
No “hold hands and walk this way” prompts.
Just your family doing the things you love, in the places you love to be.
Because that’s where the magic lives. In the in-between moments that may not feel like much now… but will mean everything one day.
